Character Power Level and Build Points
When creating a new character you will need to decide on a Character Power Level (CPL), which will often be between 10 and 20. In a tabletop RPG, this is usually mandated by the GM. For every CPL you will receive 10 build points to spend in the following areas:
Stats
There will be eight core statistics: Strength, Agility, Aim, Health, Intelligence, Perception, Willpower, and Charisma. Other stats will include Movement, Faith, and Magic.
Ancestry
Each character will select a combination of between one to four ancestries, or bloodlines. The selected ancestries will influence stats as well as special abilities. For example, you could make your character one half Olympian:Erimae and one quarter each of Jorvik and Orcish blood.
Cultures
Each character will select one or two cultural packages, representing where that person has spent most of his or her time. Olympian will be the most common cultural package, but players can also select rarer packages such as Okham or Gothar.
Social Standing
Every character will have a social rank of between 0 (slave or criminal) and 8 (royalty). Your social rank will affect your wealth as well as status, authority, and occupational opportunities.
Occupations
Each character will purchase one or more occupations which will determine his or her core skills and starting wealth. Examples include Knight Bachelor, Farmer, Courtesan, and Abbot.
Extra Skills
You may additionally purchase additional skills. It is easier to advance skills that are related to one of your occupations.
Gifts and Flaws
This category covers things like phobias, exceptional beauty, and age.
Resources
Your starting wealth. Typically much more of it will be in goods and possessions rather than coin.
Contacts
Your friends and acquaintances when you begin play. There are three ranks of contacts; acquaintances, friends, and kindred spirits; which, along with the power level of the contact, will determine how difficult the contact is to acquire.
